Paths and Outdoor Access in Moray
Walks of less than 3 miles (up to 1 hour). Routes include slopes and may be on rough paths. Most are unsuitable for wheelchairs and buggies.
This circular walk takes you deep into woodland along tracks which are not suitable for wheelchairs and buggies.

This circular walk is along country lanes, tracks and paved streets and is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies. Parts of the route can be muddy in wet weather.
Tarmac pavements and farm track which can be muddy.
This circular route starts in east Buckie and includes great coastal views over the Moray Firth. Because the route is very near to the shore for part of the way, it is very exposed to cold, strong winds from the sea. There are benches along the way. The surfaces are good and the only hill is on Station Road, which is fairly steep.

This walk takes you from the picturesque harbour in Burghead on a circular route along the old railway track. The surfaces are generally good but not suitable for wheelchairs and buggies. It can be a little exposed if the winds are strong. There are toilets at the harbour and benches on Grant Street.
Gravel paths and tarmac pavements
Fairly steep decline on gravel path between Fraser Road and the coastal path. Elsewhere relatively level with some gentle slopes.
This walk is an extension of the town walk, which includes gravel paths and grass tracks which would make it unsuitable for wheelchairs and buggies. It includes great coastal views over the Moray Firth, with the possibility of dolphin watching.

This circular walk has some steep inclines and is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies because of the terrain. It includes some woodland and has good views of the ruined castle.
Tarmac pavements, compacted earth and gravel tracks. Note that the earth track in the wood is quite narrow and can be muddy/ slippy in wet weather. Watch out for tree roots.
Some steep inclines / declines, with the steepest on a ramped path section within the woodland.
This is a short circular walk with some inclines along a variety of surfaces, from paved to woodland dirt tracks. There are some steps through the wooded area which make it unsuitable for wheelchairs or buggies. There are benches along the route.
Tarmac pavements, compacted earth and gravel tracks. Note that the earth track in the wood is quite narrow and can be muddy/ slippy in wet weather. Watch out for tree roots. The tarmac surface on Cowie Avenue is quite badly pot-holed.
Several inclines / declines throughout. Note that there is a fairly steep decline down Church Street and a steady incline back up Fife Street.
This walk starts in Fochabers Square and travels to the Winding Walks and back again.
Pavements and compacted earth path - sections can be muddy when wet.
This is a circular walk through woodland on good paths with some steady climbs and descents. The paths can be muddy or full of leaves depending on weather conditions and time of year. The view from the top of the hill is spectacular. The Tower is open between Tuesday to Sunday from 2pm – 4pm during May and September. If you can manage the stairs, on a clear day you can see Findhorn Bay and over the Moray Firth to the hills of Easter Ross and Sutherland.

This is a circular route around Sanquhar Loch on paths, which can be muddy depending on the weather. Tree roots can be a problem and care needs to be taken at points along the path. This is a very scenic walk at any time of year, well signposted all the way round, with interesting wildlife particularly ducks, coots and swans.

This walk takes you from Hopeman Surgery on a circular route along part of the old railway line to Cummingston. It is quite sheltered along the old track and has lovely views over the Moray Firth with potential to spot dolphins. The section from Cummingston back towards Hopeman is along a pavement next to a relatively busy road so care will be required.

Relatively level, with short downwards slope to the old railway line in Hopeman and short steep incline to the bridge near Cummingston.
This is a circular walk which includes Broomhill Cemetery. The route includes a beautiful tree lined path and a farm track, which can be quite exposed in bad weather. It is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies. This route can join up with St Rufus Park Walk by turning right into the park off Broomhill Road.
A combination of roadside pavements, a tarmac footpath through the cemetery and a long section of gravel farm track. Take care on the track which is rather potholed and can be muddy in wet weather.
Some gentle inclines.
This is a pleasant circular walk, through town and woodland, including Cottage Wood. There are some long gradual slopes in the walk and the woodland paths need care, especially when wet. It is also fairly exposed in places and is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies.
A mixture of tarmac pavements, bare earth woodland paths and a country road. Although reasonably quiet, please be vigilant of traffic on the road section.

This circular walk is part of the Lhanbryde Paths Network. There are a variety of walking surfaces on this walk, including dirt paths, grass verges and pavements, which make it unsuitable for wheelchairs and buggies. There are also a few steps, which need caution.

This is a signposted circular route which starts on the All Abilities path and extends into the wood. The tracks are all level and suitable for buggies, although wheelchairs may struggle on the compacted earth surface.

This is a good level walk along tracks and roads and has great countryside views. It shouldn’t be attempted in really cold or windy weather as there are places where the track is very exposed.

This is a circular walk from Mosstodloch, through mature forest along tarmac road and forest tracks. The tracks can be muddy when wet. Go quietly and you may see red squirrels.

This flat, circular walk follows the River Spey on it’s way from Craigellachie to Boat o’ Brig. The path is good but is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies. The scenery along this walk is very beautiful at any time of year, although it can be a little exposed in places and the paths can be muddy in wet weather.
Mainly grass and earth path, with some sections of farm track and tarmac. Paths can be muddy when wet.
This linear walk follows the old military road out of Tomintoul heading to Alltachbeg. The track is undulating and wide but rutted and muddy in parts, needing sturdy footwear or wellies depending on how wet it is. The views are tremendous though, and worth the effort to see the hills and open heather moorland stretching out before you.
